The language barrier is always the main factor preventing people with different cultural backgrounds from communicating with each other, whereas graphic design might help with this dilemma. The archives of Chinese monsters from the ancient Chinese novel “The Classics of Seas and Mountains” is a very interesting aspect of East Asian culture to explore for audiences from the West.  juxtaposing ancient Chinese monsters, Chinese and its pronunciation in English letters in the context of contemporary pop culture might generate magnificent sparks.

CYBORK is a nation living in a high-tech era, where its citizens are all cyborgs.  Ironically, cyborgs were born to be half human beings half tech-augmented, but they are not aware of the mechanisms behind them. Only a small group of Frankensteins and crazy scientists, also known as the rulers of this nation, master the knowledge of technology to control the nation and its citizens. The whole nation is a huge amusement park that citizens are never able to escape.  It has all the elements that an amusement park should have: bright neon colors, roller coasters, big types, and dizzy life, but you will still feel subtle uncomfortableness undergoing everything, like the uncanny valley effect.

I designed the currency to mimic the coupons for carnivals with bright visuals on it.

Since Mahjong has spread beyond the Pacific to many Western countries, internationalizing Mahjong has become vital. Pop Mahjong is designed for people who are interested in playing Mahjong but cannot read or speak Chinese, with the aim of making Mahjong widely accessible.
